Nagpur, Dec 9 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced in the State assembly that the union Government has approved the installation of a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the premises of Mumbai's iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
The announcement came in response to a demand by Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Bhaskar Jadhav, who highlighted that while the CSMT station is named after the legendary Maratha warrior king, there is currently no statue of him on the premises.
CM Fadnavis emphasised that the decision is part of the ongoing large-scale redevelopment project at the historic railway station. He clarified that since the Centre has already approved the statue, there is no need for a new proposal from the state, and the statue’s installation has been included in the master plan for the revamped station.
He further explained that the reply from the union Minister of State for Railways regarding the statue was connected to the old CSMT, and reiterated that the statue will be installed only after the completion of the redevelopment work.
The announcement comes ahead of the upcoming BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation elections, where the project is expected to become a key point of discussion between the BJP-led MahaYuti and the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
